sunday friends is an innovative san jose-based nonprofit with a 23-year track record of empowering very low income families to break the generational cycle of poverty by fostering positive development in children while educating and guiding parents to support their children's life success. serving close to 1,000 unique individuals each year, our day-long programs take place on sundays at three elementary schools located in low income communities. we engage the whole family in learning opportunities in the areas of digital fluency, english fluency, financial literacy, parenting, leadership, household stability, and community. our goal is for our families to achieve 1) improved career, work and education attainment, 2) independent sustainability, and 3) leadership and confidence development. as ‘the working alternative to charity’, a unique feature of sunday friends is that there are no handouts and everything is earned. through our ticket-based learning economy, participants e
