supporting asylum seekers sydney (sass) was established in 2013 by a group of australians who started to visit villawood immigration detention centre weekly out of concern for the attitude and treatment of asylum seekers and refugees who continue to be indefinitely detained. sass has grown significantly since its inception, as more people choose to provide valuable assistance and support to asylum seekers in the detention centre. the initiative provides interpersonal contact with detained asylum seekers who have fled persecution and conflict, in many cases leaving behind families and friends in making the dangerous journey to australia. they are stuck in limbo, awaiting visa determinations in indefinite detention, a determination that will have huge implications for their future lives. ​ to asylum seekers our group provides a range of services, from food, books, clothing, advocacy and connective assistance. most importantly, we provide companionship and a support base of a diverse grou
