“early marriage is most prevalent in communities suffering deep, chronic poverty”. helene d. gayle child marriage concerns me greatly, as i almost fell victim to child marriage in uganda. i remember being scared of getting married at a very young age. praying that my papers to go to the us would go through. i would not sleep or eat for days. i remember thinking about how my future was over, and i would never get an education. however, i have so many friends back home in child marriage. this is one of their stories: "i was supposed to be in school at the time i got married," kemigisha, now 17.
