yarra trams is the largest operational tram network in the world, with 249km of double track and almost 500 vehicles in the fleet. we transport over 178 million passenger journeys each year across 27 routes and the historic city circle tourist trams. yarra trams is privately owned by joint venture keolis downer edi rail (kdr), operating the tram network under license from the victorian state government. electric trams have been operational in melbourne for over a century and kdr has been proud to continue this tradition since assuming control of the network in november 2009.
