the display manufacturing industry is turning its focus to the emerging microled (µled) technology. it is a led about 100 times smaller than standard leds. µled is used to make high-resolution displays for applications such as smartwatches. traditional leds are appropriate only for very large displays like stadium screens. to eliminate the thin film transistor arrays that control liquid crystal displays and organic led displays, the eu funded bambam project will implement microprinting of electrical and optical structures and active led pixels. europe’s display industry will benefit from µled technology that delivers better energy efficiency and picture quality. funded by the european union. views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the european union or the european commision. neither the european union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
