since its establishment as the world’s first ombudsman for children, the norwegian ombudsman has worked on the front-lines of child rights protection. established by the parliament to monitor and protects children’s rights, the institution has an important position in norwegian society as a spokesperson for children’s interests. the duties of the ombudsman are to promote children's interests to public and private authorities and to investigate the developments of conditions under which children grow up. the ombudsman has the power to investigate, criticise and publicise matters important to improve the welfare of children and youth. however, the ombudsman cannot by law reverse administrative actions or revoke administrative decisions. anne lindboe is the current ombudsman for children and she is in charge of a an office with 19 advicers. the office is located in oslo, norway.
