barnies founder terasa hill started making barnies horse treats to befriend an injured horse that she purchased at an auction when she outbid the manager of an abattoir. in an impulsive bid she became mom to the thoroughbred mare who had fractured her knee in a race the day prior. terasa nursed her back to health but soon found her own health in jeopardy. diagnosed with breast cancer, she leaned on the bay mare for comfort, understanding and companionship, through several surgeries and chemo, and her own test of fate. their story is one of compassion, strength and faith.... she named her sierra. the two live happily, with appreciation for the gift of a second chance.
