Bee University Nyc

bee university nyc started out with a group of 10 students in 2021 from various ages and backgrounds, and membership has been growing each month. through the first cohort, program members worked to prepare the hive location as well as transporting, installing, and painting the hives. during the summer months, in addition to harvesting honey, bee-u makes the transition to craft-making by utilizing beeswax and honey products. bee-u is intergenerational, and everyone takes on different roles as needed. the work is hands on - everyone wears beekeeping suits and interacts with the hives. we will often pass around impressive frames covered in hundreds of bees, or closely marvel at the formation of a honeycomb. in its first year, with limited funding, bee-u has provided programming and community engagement to over 50 community members from diverse backgrounds.
