the mission of the bellingham-whatcom county commission against domestic violence is to provide leadership in the community's efforts to respond to and prevent domestic violence. the commission was formed in 1998 by joint resolutions of the city of bellingham and whatcom county. the commission works with local agencies, institutions, and community members by providing resources, support, and technical assistance. we envision a safe and non-violent community in which all people are free from physical, emotional and sexual abuse. until that vision becomes a reality, we will assure the community makes the safety of domestic violence victims and their children a priority, while holding perpetrators of violence accountable and providing them with options and long-term support for change. we will promote understanding, sensitivity and respect within our diverse community to create non-violence through holistic, community-based solutions that empower the community to help and care for itself.
