Belmont Iceland

in 1966, east bay iceland purchased belmont iceland. the purchase took place in august. however, the rink had been closed since may. again, major renovations took place and belmont re-opened its doors to the public on december 26, 1966. in 1970, east bay iceland purchased property in dublin to build its first facility. it took five years to secure all the permits and to build the rink. in april of 1975, dublin iceland opened its doors to the public. iceland has been home to such figure skating greats as: peggy fleming, charlie tickner, brian boitano and kristi yamaguchi. all three facilities offer programs for hockey, figure skating and recreational groups. the st. moritz figure skating club has been with iceland since the rink first opened. they contract ice at both berkeley and dublin. the skating club of san francisco rents ice at belmont. both clubs serve the competitive figure skating clientele of iceland. berkeley iceland closed its doors on saturday, march 31, 2007.
