for nearly 35 years, big brothers big sisters of carolina youth development center has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. as an affiliate organization of the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, big brothers big sisters of cydc makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“bigs”) and children (“littles”), ages 6 through 16, right here in the lowcountry. we develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. ours is a proven program that has helped over 8,000 area children since its inception in 1979. in our community-based program, bigs and littles plan community outings based on mutual interests. they get together after work, school, weekends — at times that fit into everyone’s schedule! in our school-based program, bigs spend one hour a week with a child at a local school playing games, reading books, shooting hoops, or partici
