Big Xii Council on Black Student Gov't
in 1977, the big eight council was formally created by the university of missouri students when black students from the big eight conference came together in recognition that they were suffering similar problems. in 1997, the big eight council officially changed their name to the big xii council on black student government and expanded to include four texas schools into the structure of the organization. each year, an institute member of the big xii council on black student government hosts the annual big xii conference on black student government. currently, the big xii council on black student government consists of 10 institutions. each of these institutions send 5-7 delegates to meet three times over the course of an academic year. at these delegate meetings we discuss the state of our black communities, share resources and strategies on how to organize on our campuses, and build lifelong connections across schools.
