in 1999 the site originated from one’s passion for the sport. david visintainer, competitive cyclist and owner of bikecafe, saw a connection between cycling and the community that surrounds it. after years of cycling with friends and stopping at cafes while on rides, david wanted to create a forum that would accurately capture the distinctive essence of cycling. in 2002 the vision for bikecafe expanded beyond the original scope of a personal interest site. the site grew to encompass the cycling community across the globe by taking on the format of a cycling portal.
