blis technologies limited (nzx: blt) is a biotechnology company that develops and manufactures advanced probiotics for the mouth and throat. company founding professor john tagg is credited with developing and commercialising the world's first oral probiotic. tagg's research found that with the right balance of good bacteria, people enjoy better mouth and throat health, as well as more pleasant breath. blis products have been sold globally, with sales expanding across europe, asia and australasia in recent years. headquartered in dunedin, blis technologies are publicly listed on the new zealand stock exchange. in august 2000, professor tagg left his academic position at the university of otago to launch the dunedin-based company. two years later the first oral probiotic - throatguard containing blis k12 - appeared on the shelves of new zealand pharmacies. a wide variety of products have been subsequently developed, including toddlerprotect, freshbreath, travelguard and healthyteeth.
