in 1999, twenty-something erinn berkson decided it was time to throw caution to the wind and open up shop on abbot kinney in venice, ca. back then, the street was hardly a destination for tourists and tastemakers like it is today, and consisted of your typical assortment of eateries, a few vintage furniture stores, a coffee shop, a clothing store and not a gift store in sight. operating on instinct and intuition, erinn spotted an empty space that had fallen into disrepair and enthusiastically signed a lease on the spot. with blood, sweat, tears, plenty of tacos and beer, she transformed the space into a light-filled, neighborhood haven. over the years, as venice experienced immense growth and development, so too did her business. after expanding into multiple doors, she rebranded her outposts with the name burro, a nod to the “hard-working, loyal burro pioneering across the desert landscape carrying goods from all over.” drawing inspiration from the american west, burro is a one-stop
