the business model design lab (bmdl) is a multi-disciplinary research group at the católica lisbon school of business and economics in portugal. our mission is to explore the vast opportunities business model design offers and empower businesses to capitalize on business model innovation in the context of digital transformation, sustainability, and internationalization. we recognize the potential of societal changes to foster business model innovation and create well-being for the present and future generations. our research focuses on business model patterns, integrates new methods such as machine learning and feeds into our research platform, the smart business modeler. the bmdl is strategically located at the sweet spot between academia and practice. we collaborate with various partners from the private and the public sector in order to get the best out of and for both worlds and achieve our mission. the bmdl was founded in 2019 by rené bohnsack, professor for strategy and innovat
