Bylinkova Zahrada Lu&tiree Chmelar Herb Garden in Valtice

this unique garden is named after the late lu and tiree chmelar who conceived it and facilitated its creation. designed by graduates of the mendel university horticulture school in 2005 and opened in 2010, the garden is located in heart of the wine growing region of southern moravia at the valtice chateau – a part of the lednice-valtice estate and park, unesco world heritage site. it is a must stop on the prague vienna greenways route. the garden features over 300 species of herbs. no pesticides or herbicides are used. following the 17th century tradition of monastery gardens, the herbs are organized into theme gardens stretching along the valtice chateau’s terrace and presenting various uses of the herbs: medicinal, culinary, fragrance and dye herbs, aphrodisiacs, herbs that attract butterflies and bees, and herbs of myths and legends. each theme garden has an information panel in czech and english. the cherry orchard provides a shaded area where visitors can relax on picnic blanket
