Byteworks
byteworks is dedicated to advancing computer literacy to primarily at-risk and/or low-income children between the ages of 9 and 15 years old. the children participate in a series of six classes, and are introduced to a range of computing topics including internet safety, word processing, and even programming. conducted by volunteers, the classes are held in byteworks’ classroom facility located at 4100 shenandoah. upon successful completion of the free six-week course, the student takes home a complete desktop computer system. we call this course our earn-a-computer program. the computers given to the students are donated by companies and individuals in the st. louis area. each system is refurbished at byteworks. we are an all volunteer organization. our dedicated volunteers are responsible for refurbishing computers, marketing our programs, teaching classes, administration, it infrastructure… the list goes on. whatever needs to be done is done by a volunteer. byteworks encourages the
