earls road records is a uk based independent record label and we want to change the way we release music by experimenting with the format of the album. we're releasing what we call digital tapes. a digital tape is a format for releasing music, it’s no shorter than 12 minutes and no longer than 15. past formulas for releasing music have been established based on the limitations of technology or commercial infrastructure. in todays music industry these limitations don’t exist and the wider music industry is falling behind. album sales are dropping and labels are struggling to effectively monetise digital content and hold audience’ attention. the digital tape is the answer to these problems. 15 minutes is long enough to establish an artistic style and tell a story but not so long that it’s overwhelming. audiences know what they are getting every time and artists face the creative challenge or utilising this 15 minute canvas effectively. earls road records released it's first digital tape
