East Africa Quality in Early Learning (Eaqel) Project

east africa quality in early learning project is a development initiative of aga khan foundation funded by the generous support of ukaid grant from the uk government with an aim of expanding education opportunities and improves learning outcomes for children in marginalized areas in coast and north eastern kenya the project has been implementing an innovative learning approach, reading to learn to improve learning outcomes by integrating the teaching of the curriculum at each school level with teaching reading and writing skills that enables every learner to succeed. its intervention targets class 1-6 of primary school and is done through the cluster system within the kwale, msambweni and kinango districts of coast region and ijara and hulugho districts in north eastern region. a total of 106 schools (46 in kwale and msambweni; 39 in kinango and 21 in ijara and hulugho) are targeted as treatment schools.
