East West Rail Consortium

the east west rail consortium is a group of local authorities and strategic partners promoting the development of a strategic railway to connect east anglia with central, southern and western england. the 'western section'​ is now a committed, funded scheme to re-introduce passenger and freight services between bedford and oxford, milton keynes and aylesbury and beyond. it involves upgrading and reconstructing sections of existing and 'mothballed'​ rail track, which is to be delivered by network rail. the consortium is also working to develop a business case to re-establish a rail link between bedford and cambridge, referred to as 'the central section'​.
