welcome to the amateur radio emergency service®, known as ares®. in eastern massachusetts, ares is composed of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in public service when disaster strikes. eastern massachusetts ares serves 190 communities in all eight counties east of the worcester county line from the nh state border to cape cod and the islands. the organization maintains a close liaison with the massachusetts emergency management agency through its radio amateur civil emergency services (races) program as well as the national weather service taunton office's skywarn program.
