based in the u.s. and vietnam, east films aims to bring expertise to a growing entertainment landscape in southeast asia, develop stories with innovative creatives across a wide spectrum of genres, and advise on international productions searching to film in vietnam. east is behind feature-length documentary, "be water" directed by bao nguyen, on the life and legacy of bruce lee which premiered at sundance 2020 and is now airing on espn as part of the sports broadcaster’s 30 on 30 documentary series. it is an official selection of the 2020 cannes film festival in the cannes classics section. east also produced the award-winning coming-of-age film, “rom”, directed by tran thanh huy. rom debuted at the 24th busan international film festival and won the prestigious new currents grand prize. rom also won the new flesh award for best first feature film at the fantasia international film festival and officially premiered in the u.s. at the new york asian film festival.
