we love books. the feel of the printed page, the smell of bookshelf and ink. we’re book fanatics. no one can take our books from us, not even the robots (we can only assume they are behind this newfangled ebook movement…metal jerks). and yet, like any sufficiently-complex system involving large groups of people, the publishing industry has become crippled by bureaucratic inefficiency, traditions and outdated systems. it’s not their fault, and they certainly aren’t doing it on purpose, but with few exceptions it’s nearly impossible to get a book published through traditional means unless it’s an assumed best seller, written by someone with an existing platform that will justify the cost of printing, or otherwise a ‘sure thing’ according to the gatekeepers who guard the presses and keep out the rabble. this system, of course, is not exactly built for evolution, and instead seems intent on holding the line – maintaining the status quo – against the onslaught of the same forces that have b
