the mission of ecosmic is to enable the long-term safety and sustainability of space activities, by producing leading-edge technology that will safeguard operational satellites against the threat of collision with space debris and other spacecraft. more than 30,000 artificial objects orbit around the earth and the probability of their collision with operational spacecraft keeps increasing with time, as new launches are performed and space objects crash and explode creating more fragments. managing close encounters in space and avoiding collisions is becoming a task that satellites operators cannot safely tackle from ground anymore: there is a growing need in the space industry for automated and enhanced on-board collision avoidance capabilities. to answer to this need, ecosmic was founded to support safe space operations, aiming at a sustainable future.
