as of 2011, the production costs for animation are needlessly inflated. it is extremely difficult for independent animators to produce quality work. one must buy at least one license for a 3d software package, a compositing package, and an editing package. there is also the time that it takes to produce or search for the assets like 3d models, sound effects, and screenplays. at ectopus, we are focused on democratizing 3d animation. our goal is to lower the production costs of production so that anyone can learn and create quality work. we do this by aggregating the best storytelling assets in the storycommons™, promoting open source software such as blender and audacity, and facilitating the networking and project management required for an efficient production pipeline.
