edso for smart grids is the european association of electricity distribution system operators (dsos) working to bring smart grids from vision to reality in europe and is focused on guiding eu rd&i, policy and member state regulation to support this development. why smart grids? the ambitious european energy policy objectives of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy, not to mention the deregulation and integration of europe’s electricity markets, have spurred a paradigm shift throughout the energy value chain. a more dynamic, distributed system, with the customer in focus, is replacing the old static system based on more predictable and centralised power generation. dsos are empowering consumers with smart meters and connecting solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicle charging points and local energy storage to their grids and enabling flexibility in the management of the increasingly variable electricity supply. thi
