edward gaut violins is a small family business and has been based in bristol since 2006. work undertaken comprises of making new fine handmade violins, violas, cellos and baroque instruments on a commission basis and are aimed at high level students and orchestral players. edward has been making violins since the age of 16 and now with 16 years experience is creating fine works of art to be played upon. daily routine involves the repair of customer violins, violas or cellos and their bows. competent in a wide range of repairs from cracks, sound post cracks, patches, new bass bars, peg hole bushing, neck re- alignment, neck grafts, new bridges, new sound posts, shooting the fingerboard and retouch varnish. regarding bows i re-hair bows which is common practice, fit new bow faces, replace button screws and eyelets. sales comprise of the new instruments created on site, student level instruments, antique violins and bows. we run a rental programme for those unsure of starting to play one
