clients are typically small businesses whose owners are needing help with something that lies outside their comfort zone. businesses are continually being confronted with problems and opportunities that must be dealt with. i help to fill the gap between the owners' recognition that something has to be done and specifying precisely what the actions will be. the width of this gap, between the idea and the specification, is a measure of the risk involved in the project and my job is to make the gap as small as possible by the time the specification is complete, and then oversee the delivery of the project on behalf of the client, ensuring that the finished article is as close as possible to what the client expected. qei also gets involved in research and development projects which have so far included innovative sailing rigs, an electric drive system for yachts, and a wave energy converter. in 2013 qei published its first book: "our money: how to shrink government, boost business, elimina
