winner of airport of the year in the 2017 scottish transport awards, inverness airport is underlining its increasingly important role to the highland economy with a record 796,854 passengers in 2016, a 17.4% annual increase. over the past year, we have undertaken a series of improvements to the terminal and our facilities, with £900,000 of investment to improve the arrivals area, departure lounge, retail outlets and catering offering. our twice daily flights to schiphol, amsterdam offer our business passengers a number of worldwide connections from the highlands and islands. daily flights to london, manchester and dublin also ensure we are better placed to do business with the rest of the uk. with new routes and increasing passenger numbers, we are going from strength to strength.
