the project aims to develop ionic barrier-based polyelectrolyte complex (pec) adsorbents for highly efficient selective separation and recovery of precious metals (pms) from urban mines. the technique includes pec capsules that enclose functional reagents, e.g. functional polymers and create ph-induced ionic boundaries for passage of selected metal ions. finally, the project aims to design strategic recovery routes for obtaining high-purity metallic pms. the project has received funding from the european union's horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the marie skłodowska-curie grant agreement no. 101026202.
