iran airtour was established in 1973 by iran air and started scheduled operations in the early 1990s . beginning in the early 1990s and continuing into early 2010s, iran air tours operated soviet-made aircraft, primarily the tupolev tu-154m. iran airtour airline has been transferred to private sector since 2011 and having a new structure of managing director and the board of directors. after iranian tupolev tu-154 aircraft was grounded in february 2011, iran airtour was faced with loss of its primary type. now iran airtour owns a number of mcdonnell douglas md-80 series aircraft (primarily the md-82) and is operating them. this company went bankrupt in 2016.
