Iraq Institute for Strategic Studies

the iraq institute for strategic studies has been established to promote, conduct, and foster research and study relating to current political, economic, and social developments in iraq. iist is an effort by iraqi academics committed to research, publication, and education, in the fields of transitional politics, human rights, secularism, and more generally, ‘iraq studies’. the institute has published over 120 books and booklets on a wide-range of contemporary iraqi issues (social and political sciences). these have been distributed in iraq and the wider international community. over 400 students have graduated from the institute since its foundation in 2006. capacity-building courses have included one-month civic education courses, which train local ngos in modern secular values (incorporating religious tolerance).
