motor neurone disease (mnd) is a progressive neurological condition that stops the messages from the brain reaching the rest of the body which leads to muscle wasting. mnd can affect the everyday things the rest of us take for granted such as, walking, talking, swallowing and breathing. there are currently over 400 people living with mnd in ireland. the imnda cannot slow the progression of mnd or change the outcome but can alleviate the feelings of isolation and improve quality of life. its vital services include the provision of specialised equipment from a loan bank, such as wheelchairs, beds and communication aids and they provide financial support towards home care. the imnda has five mnd nurses who visit families in their homes as well as educating healthcare professionals around the country. the association also funds counselling and research. the imnda’s ethos is to sustain a high quality of life, enabling people with mnd to live as active, independent citizens within
