activeeation is an adaptive re-use concept for the current memorial coliseum and surrounding site driven by real business needs to provide year round activity, year round revenue, and tangible return on both public and private investment. the rose quarter at once is an attractive and challenged site. while the urban plan locks the site between light rail tracks, main city thoroughfares, i-5, and high volume bridges, the rose quarter’s athletic tradition and natural accessibility make it an ongoing portland destination. the challenge for any adaptive re-use project at the rose quarter is creating a year round destination that does not rely on significant pedestrian traffic, but on destination based traffic. our concept achieves this by keeping a connection to athletics and supporting a multi-use athletic venue with destination based activities, integrated hotel, enhanced veteran’s memorial, and oregon tourism center. the existing shell of memorial coliseum remains intact, housing an int
