israel's ministry of regional cooperation was established in 1999. the first elected official to serve as minister of regional cooperation was shimon peres, who tasked the ministry with overseeing and managing israel's relations with countries in the region. the current minister of regional cooperation is ofir akunis, who assumed office in july 2020. under his leadership, the ministry is coordinating israel’s growing ties with gulf states including bahrain and the united arab emirates, as well as overseeing joint projects with additional neighboring countries such as egypt, jordan, greece, and cyprus. additional responsibilities include strengthening partnerships with key communities in the middle east such as christians, druze, and bedouins. through the vision of peace to prosperity, the ministry of regional cooperation is leading the way to a thriving and flourishing region.
