i am a serious amateur photographer and have been since buying my first 35mm camera in 1970. through that decade, i bought considerable other camera equipment. i experimented with various form of lighting, a focusing rail and a black & white darkroom. there were a few photography courses, but not so many that they may hurt my art. i read several books by and about old masters - particularly edward weston and ansel adams. one of the quotes i remember very well from those days may have been from weston - talking about the photography that proceeded his era. "they spent so much time making it perfect; they forgot to make it beautiful.."
