jaroslav poncar was born 1945 in prague, and is living in cologne since 1973. until 2010 he was professor at the department of imaging sciences of fachhochschule köln (cologne university of applied sciences). in 1976 he took for the first time a panoramic camera to the western himalayas - the antique russian ft-2 - and since that time he specialized on panoramic photography. his main field of photography is travel photography, in particular landscapes and his photographic projects took him to africa, arabia and to asia, especially to the himalayas (tibet, india, burma, bhutan), but also to cambodia, burma and afghanistan. more recently, he started working also in closer regions, such as italy and france. during his tenure as professor at the fachhochschule köln, he co-founded two non-profit projects. “save alchi”, a program founded in 1990 for the conservation of the alchi temple in collaboration with the archeological survey of india where professors and students of different relevan
