stumbling across a draughty, run-down country pub isn’t everybody’s idea of good luck, but we were over the moon when we found the five bells. having strolled through the gardens and gazed at the views of the surrounding berkshire countryside, we realised that despite its state of disrepair, the pub had huge potential. the seeds for the woodspeen restaurant were sown. the five bells was once a thriving country pub and we’re keen to revive its role at the heart of the local community. with this in mind, we kept the shell of the original pub, introducing traditional furnishings to create a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. surprisingly, there were no windows at the back of the pub, despite the glorious views! we put this right by extending the pub and adding a light, airy restaurant, with large windows framing fantastic views of the landscape. we’ve also created an open kitchen so you can see our chefs create the wonderfully simple seasonal dishes that make our menus so special.
