“the joanne (joe) bingley memorial foundation works towards supporting mothers, fathers and families suffering the effects of postnatal depression.” the foundation was set up by chris bingley after his wife committed suicide on 30 april 2010 whilst being treated for very severe postnatal depression. at the time she died her daugther was just 10 weeks old. after his wife’s death chris was left asking himself the same question that many others in his position had asked … why? the facts are that nhs service provision for women suffering with maternal mental health problems such as postnatal depression can be poor, to non-existent in most areas of the uk and both maternity and mental health services across the uk are opeating unlawfully and in breach of care quality standards.
