evidence lead tree advice in a language you can understand. i began practical tree work in ealing after graduating in 1980. i moved on to the professional ladder as the arboricultural assistant in northampton in 1982. the step-change in my career occurred in 1996 when i became technical director of the arboricultural association. much of the role was outward-facing – managing relationships, negotiating with all interests – i learnt a lot about the breadth and depth of the discipline. a spell in the commercial world followed as the head of a national tree contracting business, trying to meet targets, maintain good relationships with clients and win more business. the opportunity to establish my own independent practice came in 2011 following yet another regime change. since then i have provided a range of arboricultural support services, for example: • analysis, critique and review of third party expert testimony, • development site tree surveys to bs 5837:2012, • enterprise-wide tree r
