Joseph Dutton Guild

the joseph dutton guild was established at the request of bishop larry silva of the diocese of honolulu for the purpose of seeking the beatification and canonization of joseph dutton in the catholic church. dutton—a convert to catholicism, a layman, and a civil war veteran—spent 44 years in service to the hansen’s disease patients on the island of molokai’s kalaupapa peninsula. he began his mission work as a penance for what he often called his “lost years,” almost a decade of alcoholism. our current efforts include both disseminating and gathering information about joseph dutton, raising funds for initiating and sustaining his cause, and attracting volunteers. to get involved, contact us at josephdutton@rcchawaii.org. the guild, based in honolulu, hawaii, is a registered 501(c)3 charitable foundation. it is also currently awaiting the final decree of approval as an autonomous foundation in the catholic church from the bishop of the diocese of honolulu.
