here at the james smooth music and leadership institute (jsmli), we are committed to providing our students with opportunities to achieve academically, far beyond their existing expectations. in order to do so, we previously offered incredible programs in music and the arts, and we believe wholeheartedly in our ability to effect real change with our students. our qualitative goals include increased participation in college testing, college acceptance and a reduction in juvenile delinquency. we previously offered daily classes to students between the ages of 10-18 on a variety of topics including instrumental music, marching band, dance, student leadership and we also provide tutoring/mentoring in science, math, english and violence prevention. we take students to cultural events, introduce them to community leaders, mentors, and artist. we also provide performance opportunities for parades, football games, cultural celebrations, basketball games, and concerts.
