Kaikoura Marine Centre & Aquarium

education. awareness. research. conservation. we strive to be the centre for marine education in kaikoura and ultimately in new zealand. we hope to bring a sense of cohesiveness between all of the recreational and commercial marine activities around kaikoura, and involve the community in protecting their environment by first learning more about it. the kaikoura marine aquarium opened on the 15th of december, 2011, and since then we have seen over 50,000 visitors! we have felt a huge amount of support from our community and visitors and this is very much appreciated. we have an octopus, seahorses, sharks, crayfish, paua, fish, and loads of other exciting treasures to come! we also have two touch tanks and heaps of informational posters about the kaikoura marine environment. we came from small beginnings, having an outdoor location on the new wharf with just a shipping container and a fenced off area. we are now inside a building, which has been a great step up for us to acc
