kalo is an architecture firm established in 2021 by karina borodaï and laure friès. the two women first met in tokyo in 2015, working both in renowned japanese offices. after graduating from the epfl (ecole polytechnique fédérale de lausanne) in switzerland, they continued their professional journey: karina started working at herzog and de meuron office in basel and laure joined back the sou fujimoto architects office in paris. they acquired strong skills in designing projects and participating in international competitions to finally start developing their common vision about architecture. the materiality, the use and the context are for kalo inseparable elements in the development of projects. in addition, the two partners bring an important reflection on the details, the changes of scales and the sustainability, by trying as best as possible to answer the contextual issues, social and environmental.
