Oš ,,Vuk Karadžić'' Žitkovac

a four-year elementary school in žitkovac didn’t exist until 1911. pupils attended school in prćilovica. the amount of 8000 dinars was raised on the initiative and with the financial help of priest laza martinović and stanko petrović, a parliament member, as well as with the help of donation from residents of žitkovac. the money was used to build a school and a flat for teachers. thanks to an enormous commitment of dragoljub milosavljević and sava milićević, the supervisors on the construction, the building was finished as quickly as possible. the school in žitkovac was opened on the 1st september 1911. the first teacher was svetolik janković. the school was open for almost a year and then it was closed due to the war with the turks in 1912. the school was opened again in 1913. and closed in 1914. due to the world war i. it stayed closed until the 1st september 1919. during the war the enemies used the building as a warehouse for weapons. before the retreat the enemies destroyed and
