when the covid-19 pandemic set in, we all experienced disruptions to our daily lives, both professionally and personally. we were given work-from-home mandates and received personal safety recommendations from the center for disease control, including the practice of “social distancing” and the use of face coverings to slow the spread of the virus. all of this immediately changed our world just as much as it changed yours. as the virus started to gain a grip on the u.s. and the rest of the world, we started to see massive supply shortages on key items like masks for healthcare workers. and then the cdc started recommending that all of us wear cloth masks to help contain the spread of the virus. if we’re all going to go back to work, back to school, back to sporting events, or even to the grocery store, then that means millions of masks have to be produced, and we can’t do that by sewing a bunch of old t-shirts together. the rush to produce cloth masks created a different problem.
