as the first private sector investment in the kingdom's petrochemical industry, saudi chevron phillips (scp) a 50/50 joint venture between chevron phillips chemical (cpchem) and saudi industrial investment group (siig) began operations in december 1999 and produces benzene, cyclohexane and gasoline blend stock. another 50/50 venture between the two jubail chevron phillips (jcp) began operations in august 2008 and produces styrene, ethylene and propylene. in october 2012, saudi polymers company (spco) a 35/65 between cpchem and national petrochemical company (petrochem) began commercial production, spco produces polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, 1-hexane, ethylene and propylene. the plant sites consolidated their operating identities into a single name – s-chem. the s-chem logotype is reflective of cpchem's brand identity, and it contains a third boomerang icon which is green to represent the national color of the kingdom of saudi arabia.
