Burma Education Partnership

burma education partnership is an award winning, specialist british educational charity. it has developed experience and expertise in teacher training with the displaced burmese refugee and migrant communities of the thai/burma border. the charity was built in 2002 by teachers from the uk and ireland and has developed its own particular way of training based on 'professional partnerships'. their trainers work alongside local teachers in the classroom helping with lesson preparation, demonstrating new skills and team teaching. due to a long running civil war, over 140,000 refugees have fled from burma to thailand to find safety in seven refugee camps along the thai/burma border. the refugees come mainly from the karen ethnic group, a people who have a long–standing link with the british, the two peoples being allies during world war ii. the camp populations include roughly 30,000 children of school age. many of these children have lived all of their lives in the camps, and it is likel
