xiamen university (xmu), founded in 1921 by mr. tan kah kee, a renowned malayan overseas chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist in southeast asia, was the first chinese higher educational institution established by an overseas chinese. it is the only university in china’s five special economic zones that enjoys privileged support from china’s ministry of education for participation in “project 211” and “project 985”. xmu had been recognized internationally. it ranks 9th in china , 37th in asia and 275th globally. also 9 of xmu disciplines have been recognized as top 1% globally in esi. it has been selected as 1 of the 14 most beautiful campuses in the world by the daily telegraph, uk. upon the invitation of malaysian ministry of higher education to set up a branch campus in malaysia and in keeping with the vision of our founder mr. tan kah kee, we began in earnest to build our first offshore campus in malaysia and became the pioneer university from china to establish an overseas campu
